Frosty Green Smoothie

IMG_1707

Smoothies are a great way of incorporating all sorts of fruits and veggies. They are also a good snack, after a workout, for breakfast, or even a meal replacement (perhaps for you raw foodists out there!). Ever since I got a Vitamix for Christmas, I have been having fun making all sorts of smoothies, trying out recipes and experimenting myself.

Fortunately, this yummy smoothie is completely sugar-free, using the natural fruits to provide natural sweetener. Making sure the peels are still on the apples ensure that there is lots of fibre. The spinach also provides some iron and various vitamins, and ginger is good for the immune system. Matcha also contains many antioxidants, and will give you a more gentler caffeine boost than would coffee. If using, a boost of chia seeds provides some heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids. This one will certainly keep you energized for the morning!

Ingredients
Makes 2 servings

  • 1 cup milk of choice
  • 1 cup frozen mango
  • 1 whole apple (roughly chopped, with stems and seeds removed)
  • 1-2 cups spinach, tightly packed
  • 1/2 inch ginger knob
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 and 1/2 tbsp mint
  • 1 tsp matcha (can skip, if none on hand)
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds (optional)

Place all ingredients in your high-powered blender starting with the milk, and blend from low to high until smooth. Enjoy 🙂
